Day Shift Press Brake Operator

Reports To: Fabrication Supervisor

A Press Brake Operator at West Central Steel plays a vital role in the overall success of getting our customers the accurate and precise parts that that they need on time and correct. This position would be responsible for accurately bending and packaging the order to be shipped out of our facility. Attention to detail, good communication and the ability to learn and adapt to the changes made with the growth of our company are keys to being successful in this position

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows the Quality Management System guidelines, all Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
    • Understand ISO 9001 Standards
  • Follows safe work practices and OSHA requirements
  • Operates press brake Safely and efficiently
  • Maintains press brakes and keeps them operating properly
  • Proficient in the use of a tape measure and caliper
  • Follow all safety rules Inspects material for accuracy and maintains industry standards
  • Communicate with Supervisor and co-workers
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Inspect material for any defects
  • Completes all paperwork correctly
  • Maintain exceptional attendance
  • Complete daily and monthly inspections
  • Be able to read prints and understand them
  • Be proficient in the use of a forklift & jib crane
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training a plus.
  • 1-3 years’ experience forming metal on a press brake required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
  • Press brake safety, maintenance and proper tool handling maintained at all times.
  • Basic knowledge of tool capability/capacity.
  • Knowledge of air forming bottom bending and coining.
  • Computer skills including ability to effectively use the business system.
  • Proficient in basic math.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Problem solving.
  • Must be willing to be multifunctional and cross train in other areas.
  • Ability to read and analyze blueprints.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Willingness to work overtime to meet production timelines.
  • Ability to use and read measuring devices, calipers, height gauges, as required.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing product flow and customer products.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.

Wage

  • Varies on experience but the union scale starts at $16.30 per hour
